About this Blog - 1

Welcome to Martijn’s part of the Internet where he explores C# programming.

Wooden Shoes and C#My name is Martijn Dijksterhuis. I am a Dutchman who hasn’t seen the Netherlands in quite a long time, and who should do a lot more coding.

From Hobby to Study to Job to Hobby

My background is in Computer Science. I am a computer programmer who hasn’t had a position in programming for a long time. (Think the “m” word).

As they say in Jungle book: You can take the boy out of the jungle, but you can’t take the jungle out of the boy.

I have been writing code since I first got my hands on a computer through the local library — and I am not about to stop.

With so many languages why C# ?

Its personal. Having started in Basic, Pascal and finally C/C++ I came across Java in University (it was all the rage then) and enjoyed it.

Skip forward to the future and when I discovered C# I instantly liked its cleaner coding style and of course its “natural next step” feeling following C. Because of the amazing work done by the MonoDevelop and Mono teams I can combine coding C# and working with Linux. But I do code on Windows as well.

What does this blog cover?

  • The C# language
  • .NET libraries and classes
  • Visual Studio on Windows
  • Mono and MonoDevelop on Linux
  • News and events

This blog is my garden of curiosity about how C# is evolving and a playground where I can test concepts and ideas.

If you found it by accident I hope it gave you the insight you were looking for. If you liked it, maybe stick around as there is a lot more to come. And do leave a comment!

Can I use this method at my website and is it any special things I have to think about before using it at a public site?
